Deforestation in the Ecuadorian Amazon and its effects on the indigenous population

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je analyzovat problematiku odlesňování v ekvádorské Amazonii zejména v provincii Morona Santiago a důsledky, které má deforestace na místní obyvatelstvo. Pomocí systematické literární rešerše byly k tématu práce sesbírány abstrakty odborných článků z databází Web of Science, EBSCO, SCOPUS a Google Scholar, a to z let 2010-2021. Tyto abstrakty byly následně zpracovány metodou obsahové analýzy. Byla použita kvalitativní metoda analýzy v tomto případě případová studie zaměřená na odlesňování v ekvádorské Amazonii. Dále byla sesbírána statistická data za účelem komparace a následné interpretace dat o deforestaci a změnách životního prostředí v oblasti. Práce obsahuje podrobný popis ekvádorského území z hlediska ekonomiky, politiky, přírodních podmínek a obyvatelstva. Specifikovaný je také historický vývoj státu. Dále se práce zabývá problematikou deforestace, nejdříve v obecné rovině a poté konkrétně v ekvádorské Amazonii a v provincii Morona Santiago. Podrobněji se tato práce dále věnuje příčinám a důsledků odlesňování. Problematika deforestace je konkrétně promítnuta do jednotlivých farností oblasti a analyzuje její příčiny a důsledky. Kromě toho práce obsahuje charakteristiky iniciativ zaměřených na snižování odlesňování, ochranu přírodního bohatství a prognózu celé problematiky. Výsledkem mé práce je například zjištění, že i přes iniciativy ochrany přírody se stále velmi rychle rozšiřuje těžba ropy, která negativně působí na původní obyvatelstvo, a především na jejich způsob a kvalitu života.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyze the issue of deforestation in the Ecuadorian Amazon, especially in the province of Morona Santiago and the consequences of deforestation on the local population. Abstracts of professional articles from the databases Web of Science, EBSCO, SCOPUS, and Google Scholar from the years 2010-2021 were collected on the topic of the work with the help of a systematic literary search. These abstracts were subsequently processed by content analysis. A qualitative method of analysis was used, in this case a case study focusing on deforestation in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Furthermore, statistical data were collected to compare and subsequently interpret data on deforestation and environmental change in the area. The thesis contains a detailed description of the Ecuadorian territory in terms of economy, politics, natural conditions, and population. The historical development of the state is also specified. Furthermore, the work deals with the issue of deforestation, first in general and then specifically in the Ecuadorian Amazon and the province of Morona Santiago. This work deals in more detail with the causes and consequences of deforestation. The issue of deforestation is specifically reflected in the individual parishes of the area and analyzes its causes and consequences. In addition, the work contains the characteristics of initiatives aimed at reducing deforestation, conservation of natural resources and a forecast of the whole issue. The result of my work is, for example, the finding that despite nature conservation initiatives, oil production is still expanding very rapidly, which has a negative effect on the indigenous population, and especially on their way and quality of life.
