Design and implementation of a Business Intelligence solution for a specific company

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je navrhnout a implementovat Business Intelligence řešení, a to ve formě reportingu, pro interní využití v rámci specifické obchodní společnosti. Účelem tohoto řešení je zefektivnění procesu kontroly výkonnosti a efektivity oblasti obchodu jedné z divizí této společnosti v průběhu fiskálního roku. V práci je nejprve uvedena motivace ke zpracování projektu – jeho business zadání, které se věnuje nejen prostředí společnosti, ale také hlavním problémům výchozího stavu, které by dodané řešení mělo adresovat. Následuje popis datového zadání projektu, v rámci kterého jsou identifikovány veškeré zdrojové systémy a nastoleny otázky, které bude nutné ve vztahu k implementaci řešení zodpovědět. Definovány jsou i základní technické požadavky na řešení. Práce dále popisuje implementaci řešení v rámci fázového přístupu, a to od získání dat, přes jejich transformaci, až po následnou vizualizaci v podobě dashboardu, a to za využití nástroje Power BI Desktop. V rámci kapitoly 3.3 je popsána distribuce řešení koncovým uživatelům. Pokračování projektu se poté věnuje kapitola 4, ve které je detailně rozebrán proces konsolidace datového modelu, výběr vhodného nástroje pro tento proces a klíčové cíle tohoto procesu. Součástí závěru práce je zhodnocení dosažení vytyčených cílů práce i popis dalšího rozvoje projektu.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to design and implement a Business Intelligence solution, in the form of reporting, for internal use within a specific company. The purpose of this solution is to streamline the process of controlling the performance and efficiency of the business area of one of the divisions of this company during the fiscal year. The thesis first presents the motivation behind the development of the project – its business brief, which addresses not only the company's environment, but also the main baseline issues that the delivered solution should address. This is followed by a description of the project's data brief, which identifies all the source systems and raises the questions that will need to be answered in relation to the implementation of the solution. The basic technical requirements for the solution are also defined. The thesis further describes the implementation of the solution in a phased approach, starting from data acquisition, through data transformation and subsequent visualization in the form of a dashboard, using the Power BI Desktop tool. In chapter 3.3, the distribution to end-users is described. The project’s implementation is then continued further in chapter 4, where the process of consolidating the data model, the selection of the appropriate tool for this process and the key objectives of this process are discussed in detail. The conclusion includes an evaluation of the achievement of the stated objectives of the thesis as well as a description of the project's future development.
