Population genetics and phylogeography of Mediterranean Sea dolphins

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce vychází z rešerše vědeckých studií zabývajících se populační genetikou a fylogeografií delfínovitých a shrnuje jejich dosavadní znalosti. Práce se soustřeďuje na tři druhy vyskytující se ve Středomoří, především v Jaderském moři - delfín skákavý, delfín pruhovaný a plískavice šedá. Největší důraz je kladen na biogeografii areálu, fylogenetické postavení, populační genetiku, fylogeografickou historii a trofickou a prostorovou ekologii jednotlivých druhů. V závěru práce je také stručná charakteristika Jaderského moře, včetně jeho biodiverzity a historických změn, které jsou důležité pro pochopení biogeografie a molekulární ekologie delfínovitých.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is based on review of scientific studies dealing with population genetics and phylogeography of dolphins and summarizes their existing knowledge. The work is focused on three species occurring in the Mediterranean, especially in the Adriatic sea - the Bottlenose Dolphin, the Striped Dolphin and the Risso's Dolphin. The greatest emphasis is placed on range biogeography, phylogenetic relationships, population genetics, phylogeographic history and trophic and movement ecology of particular species. There is also a brief description of the Adriatic Sea at the end of the work, including description of its biodiversity, historical changes, which are important for understanding the biogeography and molecular ecology of dolphins.
