Imunitní systém má zásadní význam v obranyschopnosti organismu. U obratlovců se uplatňují dva základní typy imunitních mechanismů: nespecifické a specifické, přičemž u obou jsou známy jak buněčné, tak humorálně zprostředkované reakce. Immune system plays a key role in striking power of an organism. There are two main immune mechanisms in vertebrates: specific and non-specific; whereas both mechanisms employ both cell and hormonal-based reactions.
