Generativity in context of values among young adults: Comparing sample who maintain cultural traditions and sample who does not maintain cultural traditions

Abstract:

Předmětem výzkumu bylo srovnání skupiny věnující se udržování kulturních tradic a skupiny, která se nevěnuje tradicím, v míře generativity a úrovni hodnot. Práce vychází z teorie generativity dle D. P. McAdamse a E. de St. Aubina a teorie základních hodnot S. H. Schwartze. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 266 participantů, kteří odpovídali na dotazníky Loyola Generativity Scale a Portrait Values Questionnaire. Pro srovnání skupin byly vybrány pouze hodnoty překročení sebe sama (univerzalismus a benevolence) a hodnoty konzervace (tradice, konformita a bezpečnost). Výsledky prokázaly souvislost míry generativity a úrovní hodnot překročení sebe sama a konzervace. Dále se nám podařilo prokázat vyšší míru generativity a vyšší úroveň zkoumaných hodnot u skupiny věnující se udržování kulturních tradic. Tyto výsledky jsou v souladu s dříve publikovanými výzkumy. Závěrem nás také zajímalo, jak souvisí demografické charakteristiky s mírou generativity a úrovní hodnot. Pro celý soubor byl prokázaný vliv genderu na míru generativity a úroveň některých hodnot. Vliv věku a rodičovství na míru generativity a úroveň hodnot nebyl statisticky významný. Výsledky související s demografickými charakteristikami ve skupině věnující se udržování kulturních tradic a skupině nevěnující se udržování kulturních tradic byly různé.

Abstract:

The topic of this research is a comparison of the sample who maintain cultural traditions and sample who does not maintain cultural traditions in the amount of generativity and the level of values. The paper is based on D. P. McAdams and E. de St. Aubin’s theory of generativity and S. H. Schwartz’s theory of basic values. The research is based on 266 participants who answered two questionnaires: The Loyola Generativity Scale and the Portrait Values Questionnaire. For comparison was chosen only self-transcendence (universalism and benevolence) and conservation values (tradition, conformity, and security). The results show a relationship between the amount of generativity and the level of values. These results are compliance with earlier researches. At last, we examined the relationship between demographic characteristics and the amount of generativity and the level of values. There is proved the influence of gender on the amount of generativity and the level of values for the entire sample. The influence of age and parenthood on the amount of generativity and the level of values is not proved for the entire sample. The results of the influence of demographic characteristics in the group who maintain cultural traditions and the group who does not maintain cultural traditions were different.
