Ecocritical Analysis of Selected Norwegian Works

Abstract:

Magisterská práce se věnuje ekokritické analýze tří vybraných norských děl. Těmi jsou Bídné roky: Soumračná země od Knuta Faldbakkena, Mengeleho Zoo od Gerta Nygårdshauga a Modrá od Maji Lunde. Díla jsou analyzována pomocí hlubinné ekologie a konceptů pastorály a divočiny, věnuje se i žánru climate fiction. hlavním cílem práce je zjistit, jak je příroda v dílech zobrazována a vnímána, jakou roli v textech hrají myšlenky hlubinné ekologie a jaké formy eko-terorismu se v nich vyskytují. Vedlejším cílem je zjistit, zda si jsou díla, která byla vydána v různých časových obdobích, v něčem podobná či nikoli.

Abstract:

The master's thesis focuses on the ecocritical analysis of three selected Norwegian works. These are Twillight country by Knut Faldbakken, Mengele Zoo by Gert Nygårdshaug and The End of the Ocean by Maja Lunde. The works are analyzed by using deep ecology and the concepts of pastoral and wilderness, and the climate fiction genre is also focused on. The main goal of the work is to find out how nature is depicted and perceived in the works, what role the ideas of deep ecology play in the texts and what forms of eco-terrorism are found in them. A secondary goal is to find out whether the texts that were published in different time periods are similar or not.
