The character of Ferdinand Vanek in socio-cultural context: The development of a social type in the works of Vaclav Havel, Pavel Landovsky, Pavel Kohout, Jiri Dienstbier, Tom Stoppard and Marek Hejduk

Abstract:

Ferdinand Vaněk je fiktivní dramatickou postavou, která se poprvé objevila v díle Václava Havla. Do svých divadelních her si ji následně vypůjčilo pět dalších autorů, Pavel Landovský, Pavel Kohout, Jiří Dienstbier, Tom Stoppard a Marek Hejduk. V jejich díle reprezentuje zakázaného autora, který je pronásledovaný československým režimem v období normalizace a vyrovnává se i s porevolučním obdobím. Ferdinand Vaněk jednotlivých autorů a jednotlivých her nabývá více podob a více či méně odráží několik jemu vlastních poloh: Vaněk jako divadelní princip, Vaněk jako nositel autobiografických prvků autora, Vaněk jako Václav Havel, Vaněk jako zrcadlo společnosti. Cílem práce je sledovat cestu a vývoj této postavy na pozadí historických událostí a přiblížit ohlas, který ve společnosti vyvolala.

Abstract:

Ferdinand Vaněk is a fictional dramatic figure that first appeared in Václav Havel plays. Subsequently, five other authors borrowed the figure for their own plays. It was Pavel Landovský, Pavel Kohout, Jiří Dienstbier, Tom Stoppard and Marek Hejduk. Ferdinand Vaněk represents in their plays not only a banned author that is being persecuted by the Czechoslovak regime during the period of normalization but he also puts up with the post-revolution period. In the plays of the individual authors Ferdinand Vaněk takes more forms and more or less reflects several of his own positions: Vaněk as a theatrical principle, Vaněk as representative of autobiographical elements of the author, Vaněk as Václav Havel, Vaněk as a the mirror of society. The goal of the thesis is to follow the development of this character on the background of historical development and to get closer to the reception of this figure in society.
