Analysis of internal communication in multicultural company

Abstract:

Efektivní komunikace je v každé firmě velmi důležitá a ovlivňuje její úspěch. Nejinak nebo spíše o to více, je komunikace důležitá, pokud se jedná o multikulturní společnost, kde je správné nastavení komunikačního systému nezbytností. Tato diplomová práce byla inspirována SWOT analýzami a brainstormingy, které ve společnosti proběhly a které poukázaly na neefektivní vnitrofiremní komunikaci. Cílem diplomové práci bylo nalézt příčiny této neefektivity a nasměrovat tak společnost k řešení této situace a ke zlepšení komunikace. V teoretické části práce jsem objasnila teorii vnitrofiremní komunikace, její směry, kanály, nejčastější bariéry a dále pak teorii Geerta Hofstedeho, který se zabýval rozdílností kultur. V metodologické části jsem se zabývala cílem výzkumu, hlavní a dílčími výzkumnými otázkami, výběrem a způsobem použití jednotlivých metod. Výsledky výzkumu ukázaly, že nejzávažnějšími příčinami neefektivní komunikace je časová vytíženost manažerů, nedůslednost v dodržování termínů a plnění úkolů, a poté špatně nastavený systém meetingů. Svůj významný vliv nese také kultura, ve které jsou jednotliví zaměstnanci vychováni. Jedná se zejména o rozdílnost v rychlosti rozhodování a v horizontech, v jakých si ta která kultura stanovuje své cíle. V závěru práce pak doporučuji aktivity, které by vedly k hlubšímu prozkoumání firemní komunikace a následnému zlepšení.

Abstract:

Effective communication is very important in every company and has impact on its success. Not otherwise or the more like, communication is important as far as a multicultural company is concerned where the right determination of communication system is essential. This diploma thesis got inspired by SWOT analyses and brainstorming which had run in the company and had pointed at inefficient intercompany communication. The aim of the diploma thesis was to find causes of this inefficiency and by this direct the company towards coping with the situation and improving communication. In the theoretical part I explained the theory of intercompany communication, its directions, channels, the most frequent barriers and further then the theory of Geert Hofstede who was engaged in cultural differences. In the methodological part I dealt with the aim of the research, main and partial research issues, selection and way of usage of particular methods. The research results showed that the most serious causes of inefficient communication was time utilization of the managers, inconsequence in keeping deadlines and task fulfillment and afterwards badly-settled system of meetings. The research results also showed that one of the cause of communication trouble is caused by culture differences, especially speed of deciding and way how to define targets (long x short term goals). In the conclusion of the work I then recommend actions which might lead to an in-depth exploration of the company communication and its subsequent improvement.
