Motivation, Values and Attitudes in Folklore Movement. (Shown on the Example of Folklore Groups of the Wallachian Town of Vsetín)

Abstract:

The main theme of my thesis is folklorism, which is a relatively „young“ orientation in contemporary ethnology, and its specific feature is a diversity of its concepts. To achieve the goals of the work it was vital to define both generally and specifically the development of folklore movement in the Czech lands in the backround of historical events with the focus on ethnographic region of Wallachia. The attention, however, is mainly devoted to transformed forms of folklore. The work mostly deals with folklore group Kotár from Vsetín and its members but it would not do without the descriptions of the development and activities of two older groups in the town, namely Vsacan and Jasénka. The aim of the work is to show how activities in a folklore group satisfy social and personal needs, focusing on motivation, values and attitudes of its members. And thanks to folklorism we can see how folklore traditions are being processed and what significance they have for their bearers.

Abstract:

Hlavnou témou práce je folklorizmus, ktorý je v súčasnej etnológii pomerne „mladou“ orientáciou, pričom špecifickou stránkou je rôznorodosť jeho konceptov. Pre naplnenie cieľov práce bolo potrebné obecné, ale aj konkrétne vymedzenie vývoja folklórneho hnutia na českom území na pozadí historických udalostí, so zameraním sa na etnografický región Valašsko. Pozornosť je však upriamená na nositeľov transformovaných foriem folklóru. Práca sa z väčšej časti zameriava na členov folklórneho súboru Kotár vo Vsetíne, ale nezaobišla by sa aj bez priblíženia vývoja a činnosti starších súborov v meste, a to Vsacanu a Jasénky. Cieľom práce je predstaviť to, ako činnosť vo folklórnom súbore napĺňa sociálne a osobné potreby, so zameraním sa na motivácie, hodnoty a postoje jeho členov. Práve prostredníctvom folklorizmu môžeme vidieť, ako sa s ľudovými tradíciami pracuje a aký majú význam pre jeho nositeľov.
