The Development of Views of Light and the Possibility of its Use in Teaching Secondary School Physics

Abstract:

Práce zachycuje vývoj názorů na podstatu světla od prvních doložených představ starověkých myslitelů po vznik fotonové koncepce. Kriticky rozebírá zpracování tohoto tématu v českých gymnaziálních učebnicích fyziky posledních šedesáti let. Jak ve fyzikálně-historických, tak v pedagogických komentářích je zvláštní důraz kladen na zavedení pojmu světelného kvanta – fotonu. Porovnávají se alternativní možnosti středoškolského výkladu kvantové interpretace světla. Součástí textu jsou pečlivě vyargumentované úvodní prezentace fotoefektu a Comptonova jevu. Závěrečný komentář srovnává jejich přednosti a úskalí.

Abstract:

The thesis describes various conceptions of light – from the first notions by ancient thinkers to the origin of photon concept. The treatments of this subject by Czech secondary school textbooks of the last sixty years are critically analyzed. Special attention is paid to the introduction of the concept of light quantum – photon. Most frequently used ways of high school presentation of quantum interpretation of light are compared and critically evaluated. Then, the carefully substantiated introductory treatments of both photoeffect and Compton effect are suggested. Closing commentary scores advantages and stumbling blocks of both of them.
