Analysis of temperature and precipitation time series in the Czech Republic for the period 1961–2018

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou teplotních a srážkových časových řad, jejichž hodnoty byly naměřeny na území České republiky v období 1961–2018, a to jak z denního, tak i z měsíčního a ročního pohledu. Údaje o časových řadách byly získány od Českého hydrometeorologického ústavu. Cílem této práce je prozkoumat základní vlastnosti vybraných časových řad, zejména pokud jde o trendovou a sezónní složku a jejich vývoj v čase. Cílem je také posouzení, zdali v průběhu sledovaného období došlo k prokazatelným změnám teploty nebo úhrnu srážek, které mohou být spojené s aktuálními globálními změnami klimatu. Tato práce si dále klade za cíl prozkoumat hypotézy, že rok 2018 byl nejteplejším a nejsušším rokem za sledované období a že existuje negativní korelace mezi průměrnými měsíčními teplotami a měsíčními úhrny srážek. Pro potřeby analýzy byly využity základní popisné charakteristiky. Při modelování sezónní a trendové složky byly použity regresní metody a byla uvažována aditivní dekompozice časových řad. Pro posouzení negativní korelace mezi měsíčními časovými řadami průměrných teplot a srážkových úhrnů pak Pearsonův korelační koeficient.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is focused on analysis of temperature and precipitation time series that were measured in the Czech Republic during 1961–2018. This thesis employs daily, monthly and yearly datasets. The datasets were obtained from the Czech hydrometeorological institute. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the basic attributes of the selected time series, mainly concerning the trend and seasonal part and their development in time. Other aims are to review if there are perceptible changes in temperatures and precipitation in the observed period that might be connected with the global effect of climate change. This thesis further aims to explore two hypotheses. The first one is that the year 2018 was the hottest one in terms of temperatures and at the same time the driest one in terms of precipitation measured in the observed period. The second one is that there is a negative correlation present between the monthly mean temperatures and the monthly precipitation in the observed period. Basic descriptive characteristics were used for the analysis, the additive decomposition of the time series was assumed and regression methods were used for modelling the seasonal and trend part of the time series. The Pearsons correlation coefficient was used in order to examine the negative correlation between the monthly mean temperatures and monthly precipitation.
