The Novel "My" by J. I. Zamyatin in the Context of the Evolution of the Russian Political Thinking at the Beginning of the 20th Century

Abstract:

Práce je komparativní studie. Předpokládá, že lze nalézt podobnost mezi obsahem románu My Jevgenije Zamjatina z roku 1920 a historickými fakty z dvacátých a třicátých let 20. století. Za použití analýzy textu jak románu, tak řady původních dobvých zdrojů, jako jsou knihy předních bolševických spisovatelů a projevy politických a ideologických vůdců té doby, potvrzuje existenci takových bodů. Práce začíná krátkým úvodem do problematiky, detailně rozebírá několik hlavních problémů a uzavírá přehledem výsledků. Ukazuje, že literatura a historie jsou pevně svázány, propojeny dalece pře rámec rámec toho, co by se dalo nazvat "vedením kronik"; literatura zde přesahuje přínášení svědectví o své současnosti, ale varuje před tím, co by mohlo přijít.

Abstract:

The work is a comparative study. It assumes similarities may be found between the contents of the 1920 novel We by Yevgeny Zamyatin and historical facts dating from the 1920s and 1930s. Using an analysis of the text of both the novel and several original sources from the period such as books by prominent Bolshevik writers and speeches by political and ideological leaders of the time, it proves several such points can be made. The work opens with a short introduction into the topic, treats several main problems in detail and closes with a summary of the results. It is shown that literature and history are tightly bound, connected well beyond what could be called ‘chronicle-making’; literature here goes beyond giving testimony to the times, it warns of what might come.
