The Ore Mountains Region before the UNESCO World Heritage List - the area of Abertamy and its dialect

Abstract:

The subject of the thesis is the area of Abertamy municipality which is located in the western part of the Ore mountains region, the current Carlsbad district which was inhabited mainly by German–speaking population in the past. The thesis deals with historical and geographical development of this small West Bohemian region and examines the specific local German dialect which is now doomed to perish. The basis of the translation part of the thesis is a short story of the only literary text written in Abertamy dialect 25 heitere Geschichten aus Abertham by Alexander Wüst. The translation of the short story Es' Leierkosten – Fronzela is analyzed by means of comparison with translations published in books (Czech and German). An interview with a native speaker led in the Abertamy dialect is translated into contemporary Czech and German language, shows life in the Ore mountains. The thesis is enriched by other translations of folk songs and typical West Ore mountains verses. The aim of the thesis is to elaborate the above aspects into one unit and thus contribute to raise awareness of one of the micro-regions of the Czech Republic, which is a part of a cross-border project applying for enlistment into the UNESCO World Herigage List.

Abstract:

Předmětem diplomové práce je oblast města Abertamy v západním Krušnohoří dnešního Karlovarského kraje, která byla v historii majoritně obývána německy mluvícím obyvatelstvem. Práce se zabývá historicko-geografickým vývojem malého západočeského regionu a zkoumá místní specifický dialekt německého jazyka, který je v současnosti odsouzen k zániku. Základem překladatelské části práce je povídka z jediného literárního textu v abertamském dialektu 25 heitere Geschichten aus Abertham od Alexandra Wüsta. Vlastní předklady povídky Es' Leierkosten – Fronzela jsou pomocí srovnáni analyzovány s publikovanými překlady v knize (německý a český). Rozhovor s rodilým mluvčím vedeným v abertamském dialektu, který je přeložen do současného německého a českého jazyka, ukazuje život v Krušných horách. Diplomovou práci obohacují další překlady lidové písně a typického verše západního Krušnohoří. Cílem diplomové práce je zpracovat výše zmíněné aspekty do jednoho celku a přispět tak k rozšíření povědomí o jednom z mikroregionů České republiky, jenž je součástí přeshraničního projektu, který se v současné době uchází o zapsání do seznamu světového dědictví UNESCO.
