The Spillover Process in the Theory of Participative Democracy

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá procesem přelití v teorii participativní demokracie, konkrétně tezí o tom, že demokratizace pracoviště povede k vyšší účasti zaměstnanců na politických procesech. Práce sleduje zasazení teze do teorie participativní demokracie a její koherentní formulaci Carole Pateman. Její závěry srovnává s empirickými výzkumy provedenými od 70. let minulého století a sleduje postupnou reformulaci teze. V závěru práce vystavuje tezi o přelití kritice teoretické a metodologické a dochází k závěru, že k úplnému přijetí či odmítnutí teze doposud neexistuje dostatečné množství empirických důkazů.

Abstract:

This work focuses on the spillover thesis embedded into the participatory democratic theory, namely on the claims that workplace democratization leads to higher political participation amongst the labourers. It focuses on the spillover thesis formulated by Carole Pateman and its later modifications caused by ambiguous results brought by empirical studies of the hypothesis. The spillover thesis is then confronted by methodological and theoretical critiques. The work concludes that in order to fully refuse or approve of the spillover thesis, more empirical studies of the thesis are needed.
