Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá anglickou výslovností u českých a německých mluvčích. Nejprve shrnuje obecnou teorii o zvukové podobě řeči, včetně základních informací o fonetice a fonologii, způsobu popisování hlásek, mechanismu tvorby řeči, typů hlásek a jejich klasifikace a suprasegmentálních jevů řeči. Po představení obecných informací potřebných pro další zkoumání konkrétních prvků řeči jsou následně podrobněji popsány tři jazykové systémy – anglický, český a německý. U daného jazyka je vždy kladen důraz na samohlásky, souhlásky a také suprasegmentální jevy. Největší pozornost je věnována anglickému jazykovému systému, konkrétně „Received Pronunciation“, přičemž systémy českého a německého jazyka jsou pak srovnávány s tím anglickým a zdůrazňují největší podobnosti a rozdíly. Díky tomuto porovnání lze přednést hypotézy ohledně anglické výslovnosti u českých a německých mluvčích, s odhadem problematických hlásek a rozdílů v celkovém charakteru jejich anglické výslovnosti. Praktická část popisuje autorčin vlastní výzkum, který demonstruje získané informace o anglické výslovnosti v praxi. Nejprve je představena skupina dvanácti českých a německých dobrovolníků a jejich úrovně angličtiny, dále je objasněna metoda výzkumu a následně jsou prezentovány samotné výsledky výzkumu, které srovnávají průměrnou anglickou výslovnost u českých a německých mluvčích a dokazují vliv jejich mateřských jazyků na kvalitu anglické výslovnosti. Na konci jsou uvedeny největší výslovnostní problémy obou skupin a rady, jak jejich průměrnou anglickou výslovnost vylepšit.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with pronunciation of the English language in Czech and German speakers. The theoretical section focuses on introducing general theory about speech sounds, such as describing speech and speech mechanism. The general information required for further analysis of specific features of speech is then followed by a detailed description of the English, Czech and German sound systems. The author examines English vowels and consonants and the suprasegmental features of this speech, focusing only on the Received Pronunciation. The author then presents the same aspects with the Czech and the German languages, comparing and contrasting them with the English language. Based on this comparison, hypotheses are made about the English pronunciation in Czech and German speakers, determining the problematic speech sounds and differences in the general character of their pronunciation of English. The practical section describes the author’s own research, demonstrating the information collected in practice. This includes a description of a group of twelve Czech and German participants and their levels of English, an explanation of the investigation method used, and a summary of the outcomes of the research, along with a description of similarities and differences in Czech and German speakers’ pronunciation of English, and of the influence of their mother tongues. Finally, the thesis is concluded with a few recommendations as to how to improve an average pronunciation of a Czech or German speaker.
