Accessible application aggregating interfaces of social networks

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is the implementation of accessible application Accessible Aggregator that aggregates the interface of the most common social networks. Handicapped users are provided an opportunity full use of their interactive background. The theoretical part is devoted to splitting handicapped users and description of support facilities, which are visually frequently used by disabled users. Special attention is dedicated to screen readers that represent for blind users one way to perceive the web presentation. To correct function of these devices is necessary to have a website created methodic according to accessibility. The most famous of them deal with separate chapter, which describes the genesis and the major principles. Introduction to practical part evaluates the accessibility of social networks for disabled users. Specifically are described the two most famous of them, Facebook.com and Twitter.com. Their high volume of traffic is also confirmed by survey, which was done because of finding the usage of social networks by visually impaired users. Conclusion of the bachelor thesis is dedicated to implementation of the application Accessible Aggregator, which is aggregating social networks interfaces. The current version is available at http://www.accessibleaggregator.com. It describes Facebook.com and Twitter.com interfaces and also overview functionalities the application.

Abstract:

Cieľom bakalárskej práce je implementácia prístupnej aplikácie Accessible Aggregator, ktorá agreguje rozhranie najpoužívanejších sociálnych sietí. Hendikepovaným užívateľom poskytuje možnosť plnohodnotne využívať ich interaktívne prostredie. V teoretickej časti práce sa nachádza rozdelenie hendikepovaných užívateľov a popis jednotlivých podporných zariadení, ktoré sú zrakovo postihnutými užívateľmi využívané najčastejšie. Osobitná pozornosť je venovaná čítačom obrazovky, ktoré pre nevidiacich užívateľov predstavujú jeden zo spôsobov ako vnímať webové prezentácie. Na správne fungovanie týchto pomôcok je potrebné, aby boli webové stránky vytvorené podľa metodík prístupnosti. Najznámejšími z nich sa zaoberá samostatná kapitola, ktorá popisuje ich vznik a hlavné princípy. Úvod praktickej časti hodnotí prístupnosť sociálnych sietí pre postihnutých užívateľov. Konkrétne sú popísané dve najznámejšie z nich, Facebook.com a Twitter.com. Ich vysokú návštevnosť potvrdzuje aj prieskum, ktorý bol vykonaný z dôvodu zistenia využívania sociálnych sietí medzi zrakovo postihnutými užívateľmi. Záver bakalárskej práce je venovaný implementácii aplikácie Accessible Aggregator, agregujúcej rozhranie sociálnych sietí. Aktuálna verzia je dostupná na adrese http://www.accessibleaggregator.com. Popisuje rozhrania Facebook.com a Twitter.com a prehľad funkcionalít danej aplikácie.
