Learning Strategies of Students with Special Needs at University

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá výzkumem učebních strategií studentů se specifickými potřebami na vysoké škole. Cílem práce je identifikovat používané strategie studentů se specifickými potřebami, zhodnotit jejich efektivitu a navrhnout doporučení pro konkrétní vysokou školu s cílem podpořit akademický úspěch této skupiny studentů. Práce se skládá ze čtyř hlavních částí. V prvních třech kapitolách je představen teoretický základ, který se zaměřuje na definici zdravotního postižení, historii inkluzivního vzdělávání, situaci studentů se specifickými potřebami na vysokých školách v České republice a aplikaci učebních strategií ve vzdělávání u této skupiny studentů. Poslední praktická část práce prezentuje vlastní výzkum provedený na konkrétní vysoké škole za použití kvantitativního přístupu a analýzy dat z dotazníkového šetření. Z výsledků výzkumu vyplývá, že studenti se specifickými potřebami na konkrétní vysoké škole používají různé učební strategie, ale mnohdy volí jednodušší postupy, což může snižovat efektivitu učení a ztěžovat ukládání informací do dlouhodobé paměti. Závěry práce shrnují doporučení pro vysokou školu, která mají sloužit k rozvoji podpůrných opatření v terciárním vzdělávání a zajištění rovných příležitostí.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis examines the study strategies of students with specific needs at the university level. The purpose of the thesis is to identify the strategies used by students with specific needs, evaluate their effectiveness, and propose recommendations for a specific university to support the academic success of this student group. The thesis consists of four main parts. The first three chapters introduce the theoretical background focusing on the definition of disabilities, the history of inclusive education, the situation of students with specific needs at universities in the Czech Republic, and teaching strategies and their application in education for this student group. The final practical part of the thesis presents original research conducted at a specific university using a quantitative approach and data analysis from a questionnaire survey. The research results indicate that students with specific needs at the specific university use various learning strategies, but often opt for simpler approaches, which may reduce learning effectiveness and hinder the retention of information in long-term memory. The conclusions of the thesis summarize recommendations for the university focussed at developing support measures in tertiary education and ensuring equal opportunities.
