Influence of body height and weight on top running performance of men in athletics

Abstract:

Úvod. V každém sportu se na výsledku sportovního výkonu podílí řada faktorů. Do obecné struktury sportovního výkonu je autory zařazován také faktor somatický. Ten zahrnuje tělesnou výšku a hmotnost, kde tyto antropometrické charakteristiky mají povahu biomechanických veličin. Jak významný je podíl této komponenty (antropometrických parametrů) na vrcholovém výkonu atleta v běžeckých disciplinách však není dosud popsáno. Má práce by měla poskytnout nové informace hlavně atletickým trenérům juniorských kategorií, kde somatické složky již začínají hrát roli. Cíl. Cílem této práce je provést srovnání základních antropometrických parametrů (tělesné výšky a hmotnosti) závodníků světové špičky ve vybraných atletických běžeckých disciplinách a posoudit jejich vliv na sportovní výkon. Materiály a metody. Skupina zkoumaných se skládá ze 165 mužů světové atletické špičky, kteří reprezentují 46 zemí světa. Jejich tělesná výška se pohybuje v rozmezí od 160 do 196 cm a hmotnost zkoumaných atletů má hodnotu od 48 do 95 kg. Základem pro mou práci byl sběr dat tělesných parametrů těchto závodníků v běhu na 100, 200, 400 a 10 000 metrů a srovnání jejich hodnot pomocí metody Effect size. Výsledky. U srovnání absolutní a širší světové špičky v jednotlivých disciplínách se Effect size pohyboval od 0,019 do 0,421. Pouze u 100 m ES BMI vystoupal až na 0,923. Při srovnání výšek a hmotností u běžců mezi disciplínami byl ES v rozsahu od 0,005 do 2,709. Závěr. Vliv tělesných rozměrů na výkon se ukázal jako nízký při porovnání absolutní a širší světové špičky v jednotlivých disciplínách. Výjimkou byl pouze běh na 100 m, kde je důležitý především poměr tělesných parametrů. Při komparaci mezi disciplínami se ukázalo, že čím jsou disciplíny od sebe vzdálenější, tím má běžec menší šance podat, vzhledem ke svým tělesným rozměrům, vrcholový světový výkon na jiné než své specializované trati.

Abstract:

Introduction. Each kind of sport is made by several factors, which are participating on the result of the final performance. In the general structure of the sport performance there is also classified the somatic factor. This factor includes body weight and height, where these anthropometrical parameters have the characteristics of the biomechanical quantities. How important is the share of this component (anthropometrical parameters) on the top performance of the athlete in the running disciplines still hasn?t been described. My work should provide new information especially to the trainers of the junior?s categories, where the somatic components become more important. Aim. The object of this work is to accomplish comparison of the elementary anthropometric parameters (body height and weight) of the competitors of the world top class in the chosen athletic running disciplines and to consider the influence of the parameters to the sport performance. Materials and methods. The group investigated consisted of 165 men from world?s athletics top who represent 46 states of world. The group consisted of 165 examined men from the world athletic top class, who represent 46 countries of the world. Their body height is from 160 to 196 cm, and the weight of examined athletes is between 48 and 95 kg. The base of my work were data captured of the physical parameters of these competitors in the run for 100, 200, 400 and 10 000 meters and following comparison of the values with the Effect size method. Results. In the case of comparison of the total and the wide world top class in every single discipline was the Effect size between 0,019 and 0,421. Only in the run for 100m the ES BMI increased up to 0,923. During the comparison of body weights and heights of runners among the disciplines was the ES in range from 0,005 to 2,709. Conclusion. The influence of physical parameters to the performance was shown as low in the case of comparison of the total and the wider world top class in every single discipline. The exception was only the 100m run, where is important mostly the relation of the physical parameters. In comparison among the disciplines was shown, that the more distant are the disciplines, the smaller chance is that the runner is able to give a top class performance in his non-specialized raceway, according to his physical parameters.
