Bata's Factories, Batism, and the Soviet Union from 1918 to 1938. Confrontation and contacts on the background of the Czechoslovak-Soviet economic relations.

Abstract:

Disertační práce analyzuje hned několik provázaných témat týkajících se kontaktů Baťových závodů s jejich sovětskými partnery a konfrontací batismu se sovětským ekonomicko-společenským modelem. Jedním ze sledovaných cílů je zhodnocení aktivních pokusů Baťových závodů o expanzi na sovětské trhy. Dále disertační práce sleduje vzájemné studijní kontakty. A v neposlední řadě se soustředí i na míru tuzemské informovanosti o hospodářství SSSR a prezentaci Sovětského svazu a jeho ekonomického systému podnikovým tiskem. Kombinací chronologického a tématického přístupu se v disertační práci interpretují prosazované záměry zlínského vedení, hodnotí se přijatá baťovská obchodní strategie, míra její kompaktnosti a krátkodobé proměny obchodní taktiky. A to vše v kontextu reprezentací Sovětského svazu, které byly vyjevovány v baťovském tisku. Osou celé předkládané studie, kterou je v disertaci nahlíženo na vzájemné kontakty a zprostředkovaně na baťovský model, se staly informace jako jeden z klíčových zdrojů moderního hospodářství. Informace byly zvoleny proto, poněvadž moderní podnikatelské prostředí se liší od tradičního pojetí podnikání, které akcentovalo význam půdy, práce a kapitálu jako klíčových zdrojů pro produkci bohatství, právě změnou orientace na potřebu informací a znalostí. Stěžejním cílem disertace je přitom pochopení způsobu, jakým fungovala baťovská organizace, její systém řízení a způsob tiskové prezentace. Ekonomické i mimoekonomické vztahy zlínského koncernu k Sovětskému svazu jsou pak pojímány jako pomyslné laboratorní pole, na kterých jsou monitorovány a interpretovány reakce a vyrovnání se baťovského vedení s existencí sovětského režimu.

Abstract:

This dissertation analyzes several linked topics related to the contacts of Bata’s factories and their Soviet partners and the confrontation of Batism with the Soviet economic-social model. One of the pursued goals is the evaluation of active attempts of Bata’s factories to expand into Soviet markets. The dissertation goes on to follow the mutual study contacts. And last but not least it also focuses on the extent of domestic awareness of the economy of the USSR and the presentation of the Soviet Union and its economic system to the business press. A combination of chronological and thematic approach is interpreted in the dissertation as the promotion of the goals of the Zlín management, the accepted Bata business strategy is evaluated, the extent of its compactness and the short-term change of business tactics. Everything is placed in the context of the representation of the Soviet Union, which was presented in Bata press materials. The axis of the entire presented study, which is in the dissertation viewed as the mutual contacts and vicariously on the Bata model, became information as one of the key sources of modern economy. The information was chosen because the modern business sphere differs for the traditional concept of business, which accented the importance of land, labour and capital as the key sources for the creation of wealth by the change of orientation on the need for information and knowledge. A principal goal of the dissertation is understanding the manner in which the Bata organization operated, its system of management and the way of press presentations. Economic and extraeconomic relations of the Zlín concern with the Soviet Union are then read as a notional laboratory field in which the reactions and reconciliation of the Bata management with the existence of the Soviet regime are monitored and interpreted.
