Smart drugs among Czech university students

Abstract:

Předkládaná bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou užívání chytrých drog v souvislosti se studiem. Na tomto základě se v teoretické části zabýváme teoretickým ukotvením problematiky užívání stimulancií a látek s nootropickým účinkem, které nejčastěji bývají v hledáčku studentů, kteří využívají tyto látky zejména v období zvýšené zátěže. Na podkladě dostupné literatury byly stanoveny cíle a výzkumné otázky, které byly aktuální a zároveň relevantní ve vztahu ke zkoumané problematice. Studie byla navržena ve formě online dotazníkového šetření, které sestávalo přibližně ze 40-75 otázek specificky rozdělenými do šesti tematických okruhů s cílem popsat prevalenci a vzorce užívání vybraných chytrých drog mezi studenty českých vysokých škol a jejich čerstvými absolventy z let 2021-2023. V praktické části práce detailněji popisujeme výsledky prevalenční studie vybraných chytrých drog, kontextu prvního užití a vzorce pravidelného užívání chytrých drog pro účely ovlivnění studijního výkonu. Ve výběrovém souboru 2932 respondentů jsme zjistili, že téměř třetina zúčastněných přiznává zkušenost s těmito látkami v souvislosti se studiem. Užívání chytrých drog obnáší i etický rozměr, který jsme se pokusili odkrýt. Bez ohledu na celoživotní zkušenost s užíváním chytrých drog připustilo neférovost tohoto jednání rovných 11,0 % respondentů, mezi nimiž z 90,7 % byli zastoupeni jedinci z řad neuživatelů.

Abstract:

The present bachelor thesis deals with the issue of smart drug use in the context of studies. Accordingly, the theoretical part deals with the theoretical anchoring of the issue of the use of stimulants and substances with nootropic effect, which are most often in the sights of students who use these substances especially during periods of increased stress. Based on the available literature, the objectives and research questions were set to be both topical and relevant to the investigated issue. The study was designed in the form of an online questionnaire survey consisting of approximately 40-75 questions specifically divided into six thematic areas with the aim of describing the prevalence and patterns of use of selected smart drugs among Czech university students and their recent graduates from 2021-2023. In the practical part of the thesis we describe in more detail the results of the prevalence study of selected smart drugs, the context of first use and the patterns of regular use of smart drugs for the purpose of influencing academic performance. In a sample of 2932 respondents, we found that almost a third of the participants admitted to having experience these substances in the context of their studies. The use of smart drugs also involves an ethical dimension, which we attempted to uncover. Regardless of lifetime experience with the smart drug use, 11,0 % of respondents admitted the unfairness of this behavior, among whom 90,7 % were non-users.
