The comparison of chosen phenomena from the Czech translation of the Simpsons series with the original version

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem národních kulturních odlišností USA a České republiky pozorovaných v originální verzi a překladu vybraných dílů 1.-20. řady seriálu Simpsonovi. V práci je představen termín kultura a teorie kulturních dimenzí, odraz kultury v jazyce a problematika převodu kultury v překladu. Tyto poznatky jsou aplikovány na popis rozdílů, podobností a specifik americké a české kultury; tato optika je použita při komparaci a analýze vybraných kulturních jevů vyskytujících se ve zmíněném seriálu.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis deals with national cultural differences between the USA and the Czech Republic which are observed in the original and translated version of chosen episodes from the 1st-20th season of The Simpsons series. It describes the concept of culture and the cultural dimensions theory, reflection of culture in language and the issue of translating cultural aspects into foreign language. These findings are applied to describe the differences, resemblance and specifics of American and Czech culture; this perspective is used for comparison and analysis of cultural phenomena chosen from the series mentioned.
