Communication Strategies of Spokespersons in Crisis Situations

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá komunikačními strategiemi tiskových mluvčích v krizových situacích, přičemž jejím cílem je vymezit a analyzovat tyto komunikační strategie. Komunikační strategie jsou v teoretické i empirické části práce představeny v jejich návaznosti na jednotlivé fáze krize: předkrizové období, období krize a postkrizové období. V teoretické části a následné analýze autorka vychází z přístupu situační teorie krizové komunikace (SCCT) Timothyho Coombse. Empirická část práce představuje a analyzuje poznatky získané kvalitativními polostrukturovanými rozhovory s deseti tiskovými mluvčími. Práce přináší informace o tom, jakým způsobem ovlivňuje činnost tiskových mluvčích v předkrizovém období krizovou komunikaci, prezentuje aktuálně užívané komunikační strategie tiskových mluvčích a představuje přístup tiskových mluvčích k evaluaci užitých komunikačních strategií.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is focused on communication strategies of spokespersons in crisis situations with the objective to define and analyse these strategies. In both theoretical and empirical parts and the following analysis communication strategies are introduced with their relevance to individual crisis phases: pre-crisis, crisis, post-crisis. The theoretical part and the analysis were inspired by the method of situational crisis communication theory (SCCT) by Timothy Coombs. The empirical part of the thesis introduces and analyses data gained by qualitative semi-structured interviews with ten spokespersons. The thesis presents information on how the activities of the spokespersons in the pre-crisis phase affect the communication in the crisis phase. It also discusses currently used communication strategies of the spokespersons and introduces the approaches of the spokespersons to evaluation of used communication strategies.
