Cultural event as a tool for maintaining the cultural identity of the Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá kulturním festivalem Banán Fest jako prostředku pro posílení a udržení kulturní identity vietnamské menšiny žijící v České republice. Cílem práce je analyzovat úlohu kulturního festivalu zaměřeného na vietnamskou kulturu a poskytnout podrobný pohled na způsoby, jakými tento festival ovlivňuje vietnamskou komunitu. Náplň teoretické části tvoří popis pojmů kulturní identita a migrace, včetně výzev s ní spojené. Dále poskytuje přehled o vietnamské komunitě v ČR, její historii a současném stavu. Pozornost bude věnována i organizačnímu spolku Viet up a Banán Festu, včetně celé organizaci festivalu. Praktická část zkoumá vliv festivalu na vietnamskou komunitu a jak přispívá k její integraci a posílení kulturní identity. Součást výzkumu jsou individuální rozhovory s organizátory a dotazníkové šetření mezi účastníky festivalu. V závěru jsou zhodnoceny hypotézy spojené s účinností Banán Festu.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the cultural festival Banán fest as a means of strengthening and maintaining the cultural identity of the Vietnamese minority living in the Czech Republic. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the role of a cultural festival focused on Vietnamese culture and to provide a detailed insight into the ways in which this festival influences the Vietnamese community. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the concepts of cultural identity and migration, including the challenges associated with it. It also provides an overview of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic, its history and current state. Attention will also be paid to the organizing association Viet up and Banán Fest, including the whole organization of the festival. The practical part examines the impact of the festival on the Vietnamese community and how it contributes to its integration and strengthening of cultural identity. The research includes individual interviews with organizers and a questionnaire survey among festival participants. Towards the end of the thesis the hypotheses associated with the effectiveness of Banán Fest are evaluated.
