Biometric Recognition of Persons using the Hand Thermal Characteristics

Abstract:

Biometrické rozpoznávání je jedním ze způsobů identifikace osob, nebo ověření identity osob. V našem životě se dnes již zcela běžně setkáváme s využíváním biometrického rozpoznávání. Například lidé mohou odemknout své chytré telefony nebo notebooky pomocí své tváře nebo otisků prstů, využití těchto biometrických charakteristik je pro uživatele velmi pohodlné. Žádné biometrické rozpoznávání však ještě není ani zdaleka dokonalé. S větším využíváním biometrického rozpoznávání dokonce vznikají i nové výzvy v této oblasti. Cílem disertační práce je tedy navržení a ověření nového způsobu biometrického rozpoznávání osob s využitím termálních charakteristik ruky v kombinaci s běžně používanými charakteristikami ruky. V první části předložené disertační práci je uvedení do problematiky rozpoznávání osob a vysvětleny jsou základní pojmy z oblasti biometrického rozpoznávání. Dále je v disertační práci uveden rozsáhlý přehled současného stavu v oblasti biometrického rozpoznávání na bázi ruky. Ze současného stavu řešené problematiky vyplývají určité výzvy v této oblasti. Jde například o vysokou intrapersonální variaci, ne vždy dostatečnou kvalitu vstupních dat a útoky na biometrické systémy. Po specifikaci výzev je práce zaměřena na metody vhodné pro dosažení cíle disertační práce. Těmito metodami jsou metody strojového učení a hlubokého učení. Jde o především o tradiční statistické metody, rozhodovací stromy, podpůrné vektorové stroje, neuronové sítě a kombinaci těchto metod. Pomocí těchto metod je pak realizováno biometrické rozpoznávání osob na bázi ruky (využití termálních charakteristik ruky v kombinaci s běžně používanými charakteristikami ruky). Vzájemné porovnání kvality jednotlivých modelů biometrického rozpoznávání osob je poté provedeno pomocí vybraných ukazatelů výkonnosti.

Abstract:

Biometric recognition is one way of identifying people or verifying identity. In our lives today, we already quite commonly encounter the use of biometric recognition. For example, people can unlock their smartphones or laptops with their face or fingerprints; the use of these biometric characteristics is very convenient for users. However, no biometric recognition is far from perfect. With the increasing use of these biometric recognition, new challenges are even emerging in this field. The aim of the dissertation is to design and verify a new method of biometric recognition people using the thermal characteristics of the hand in combination with commonly used characteristics of the hand. In the presented dissertation thesis, the introduction to the issue of person recognition is first introduced, and the basic concepts in the field of biometric recognition are explained. There is also an extensive overview of the current state-of-the-art in hand-based biometric recognition. The current state of the problem raises certain challenges in this area. For example, there is high intrapersonal variation, not always sufficient quality of input data, and attacks on biometric systems. After the specification of the calls, the work is focused on methods suitable for achieving the goal of the dissertation. These methods are machine learning and deep learning methods. These are mainly traditional statistical methods, decision trees, supporting vector machines and neural networks, and a combination of these methods. Using these methods, biometric hand-based (using the thermal characteristics of the hand in combination with commonly used characteristics of the hand) person recognition is then realized. Then, mutual comparison of the quality of individual models of biometric recognition of people is performed using selected performance indicators.
