Effect of capital structure on the success of firm

Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje především na složení kapitálové struktury podniku. V teoretické části se zaměřím na členění kapitálové struktury, složení vlastního a cizího kapitálu podniku, na finanční souvislosti struktury aktiv a pasiv, zejména na bilanční pravidla. Dále se zmíním o různých přístupech ke složení kapitálové struktury. Zejména teorie Modiglianiho a Millera, statické a dynamické teorie. Dále se zaměřím na výklady výpočtů nákladů na vlastní a cizí kapitál, model CAPM, tj. model oceňování kapitálových aktiv a výpočty stavebnicových metod. V praktické části budu aplikovat teoretické poznatky na vybraný vzorek firem z českého trhu, za vybrané časové období. Hlavním cílem diplomové práce bude prokázat, zda úspěch podniku závisí na splnění kritérií financování kapitálové struktury, zejména pak bilančních pravidel. Dílčím cílem bude prokázat závislost mezi ukazatelem ROE a WACC. Analýzu provedu formou případové studie a to z toho důvodu, že skladba kapitálové struktury je velmi individuální a nalezení vzorku firem stejné velikosti a industriálního zaměření je velmi obtížné. Závěrem zhodnotím vytýčené cíle a hypotézy této práce, včetně porovnání výsledků jak mezi podniky, tak v oboru.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the composition of a capital structure of a company. In the theoretical section I focus on the division of capital structure, composition of own and foreign capital in a company, financial links of a capital assets and liabilities, and primarily on the balance rules. Furthermore, I mention a various approaches of composing a capital structure, such as theories of Modigliani and Miller, and static and dynamic theories. I further focus on explaining calculations of costs of own and foreign capital, CAPM, which is a model of appreciating of capital assets and calculation of modular methods. In the practical part I will apply theoretical findings on a sample of a companies from the Czech market for a chosen time frame. The main goal of this Master thesis is to prove if a success of a company depends on the fulfilment of the financial capital structure criteria, especially the balance rules. Constituent goal is to prove a relationship between the ROE and WACC. I will conduct the analysis as a case study since capital structures are very specific to the companies and finding a large sample of a similar sized companies and from the same industry is troublesome. In the conclusion I will evaluate the set goals and hypotheses of this thesis, and I will conduct a comparison between the companies and within the industry.
