10 years of achievements and failures of the membership of the Czech Republic in the EU

Abstract:

Česká republika je deset let členským státem Evropské unie, do které vstoupila 1. května 2004. Stala se tak součástí západních demokratických států a uskutečnila svůj návrat do Evropy. Členství v Unii proběhlo po vstupních jednáních na podkladě referenda, občané ČR sami rozhodli o vstupu do EU. Vstupem do EU se ČR stala součástí společného vnitřního trhu, využívá volného pohybu osob, zboží, služeb a kapitálu. Česká republika se účastní realizace společných politik Evropské unie a podílí se na rozhodování o jejích legislativních normách. Zdrojem finančních prostředků určených k rozvoji ekonomiky jsou evropské strukturální a kohezní fondy. Členství v Evropské unii posílilo bezpečnost a mírový vývoj České republiky. V České republice došlo k evropeizaci politických stran. V roce 2009 se Česká republika ujala předsednictví v Radě Evropské unie.

Abstract:

The Czech Republic has been a member state of the European Union for ten years, specifically since 1 May 2004. By doing so it became part of western democratic states and therefore returned to Europe. The membership in the EU followed the entrance negotiations and was based on referendum, the citizens of the Czech Republic themselves decided to enter the EU. With the entry of the Czech Republic to the EU it became part of common internal market and is allowed to use free movement of persons, goods, service and capital. The Czech Republic participates in realizations of common policies of the EU and co-decides on their legislative norms. The sources of finance given to the development of economics are taken from the European structural and cohesive funds. The membership in the EU has reinforced safety and peaceful development of the Czech Republic. The Europeanization of political parties has occurred. The Czech Republic took the presidency in the Council of the EU in 2009.
