Pochopení cest šíření bakterií rezistentních k antibiotikům je nezbytným krokem k nalezení způsobu, jak tento proces zastavit. Klinicky významní zástupci E. coli z nemocničního prostředí a komunitních odpadních vod byli opakovaně identifikováni také v prostředí a u volně žijících zvířat. Understanding the routes of spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria is a necessary step towards finding a way to stop this process. Clinically important E. coli representatives from hospital environments and community sewage have also been repeatedly identified in the environment and in wildlife.
