Evolution of the sex-determining systems in genus Silene

Anotácia:

Rod Silene představuje velmi zajímavý model pro studium evoluce pohlaví determinujících systémů. Dvoudomost se u tohoto rodu vyvinula dvakrát nezávisle na sobě (v sekce Otites a v sekci Melandrium) a navíc v průběhu evoluce sekce Otites došlo ke změně systému determinace pohlaví ze samičí heterogametnosti na samčí heterogametnost. Cílem této práce bylo nalézt markery pro pohlavní chromozomy Y a W a popsat systém determinace pohlaví u těch druhů náležících do sekce Otites, které budeme mít k dispozici. Propojení těchto výsledků s fylogenetickými analýzami umožnilo popsat průběh evoluce pohlaví determinujících systémů v sekci Otites a objasnit, zda je u této sekce původní systém determinace pohlaví ZW, nebo XY. Součástí této studie je i analýza gynodioecického druhu Silene sibirica. Právě analýzy gynodioecických druhů nám mohou poskytnou více informací o evoluci dvoudomosti u rostlin.

Abstract:

A profoundly important model for the study of dioecy is the genus Silene. Within this genus dioecy has developed independently in two different taxa, the section Melandrium and the section Otites. Within the section Otites, grouping the species with the sex determining system XY as well as the species with the sex determining system ZW, it is possible to observe a phenomenon that is rather unique within the Plants – the change of the sex determining system. The main goals of this theses were to identify markers of sex chromosomes Y a W and describe sex-determining systems in the species of section Otites. These data in combination with the outputs of phylogenetic analysis helped us to understand the evolution of sex-determining systems in section Otites. We have also analysed sex-determination system of gynodioecious species Silene sibirica.
