Ways of communicating with the bereaved during prehospital emergency care

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá rolí zdravotnického záchranáře v situacích, kdy na místě zásahu záchranné služby dojde k úmrtí pacienta a této situaci jsou přítomni jeho blízcí. Může se zde jednat o rodinu, přátele, kolegy v práci a další. V teoretické části práce je proto nejprve zkoumáno téma smrti a umírání. To, jak se v průběhu času měnil způsob jejich vnímání v naší společnosti. Poté je věnována pozornost procesu truchlení a osobě pozůstalého, jsou zmíněny různé formy pomoci pozůstalým a nakonec je představena profese zdravotnického záchranáře. V praktické části práce je zpracován samotný kvalitativní výzkum vedený formou řízených rozhovorů s osmnácti zdravotnickými záchranáři, během kterého odpovídali na třináct otázek zabývajících se jejich zkušenostmi a přístupem k situacím, kdy komunikovali s pozůstalými.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is focused on a role of paramedics in situations, when a patient dies during prehospital care provided by emergency medical service while relatives, friends or co-workers of the patient witness the situation. In the theoretical part of this work the topic of death and dying is examined as well as the process of the change of its perception in our society during the time. Then attention is paid to the mourning process and the bereaved. Various forms of help provided to the bereaved are mentioned and the work also introduces paramedic as a profession. The practical part of the thesis includes qualitative research, which was carried out through structured interviews with eighteen paramedics. During these interviews they answered thirteen questions concerning their experience and approaches to situations, when they had communicated with the bereaved.
