The socio-economic and political development in South Africa between the years 1978-1989

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je věnována analýze politického a socioekonomického vývoje v Jihoafrické republice mezi lety 1978-1989. V uvedené době došlo poprvé od oficiálního zavedení rasistického apartheidního režimu k jeho revizi. Období tzv. reformního apartheidu je spojeno zejména s ministerským předsedou Pieterem Willemem Bothou, který započal reformování apartheidu ve snaze o uchování politické a ekonomické moci v rukou bílých Jihoafričanů. V této práci jsem se snažila definovat příčiny, průběh a důsledky jeho reformního snažení, které předcházely demokratizujícímu procesu na začátku 90. let. 20. století.

Abstract:

This work is devoted to analyzing the political and socio-economic development in South Africa between the years 1978-1989. At that time the apartheid regime was revised for the first time since its official introduction. This period of so-called reform apartheid is associated mainly with the Prime Minister Pieter Willem Botha, who began to reform apartheid in an attempt to retain political and economic power in the hands of white South Africans. In this paper I have attempted to define the causes, course and consequences of the reform effort that preceded the democratization process in the early 90s of the 20th Century.
