Preschool Teachers' Reflections on Death and Dying as a Theme

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá reflexí učitelů mateřské školy na téma smrti a umírání v kontextu jejich pedagogické praxe. Cílem práce je porozumět postojům, zkušenostem a praktikám učitelů v této oblasti a identifikovat největší výzvy, kterým čelí při práci s tímto těžkým tématem. Práce je strukturována na teoretickou a praktickou část. Teoretická část se zaměřuje na vymezení terminologie a teoretických východisek týkajících se smrti a umírání jako tématu v mateřské škole. Zahrnuje náhled na fenomén smrti, historické perspektivy vnímání smrti a umírání a také pohledy na jejich interpretaci v současné postmoderní společnosti. Dále se věnuje dětskému konceptu smrti, roli školy v podpoře truchlících dětí, strategiím pro otevírání tématu v prostředí mateřské školy a pozici učitele v tomto procesu. Praktická část je realizována formou kvalitativního výzkumu prostřednictvím rozhovorů s učiteli mateřských škol. Získaná data jsou analyzována a interpretována, aby bylo možné porozumět postojům učitelů k tématu smrti a umírání a způsobům, jak toto téma implementují do své pedagogické praxe. Na základě výsledků výzkumu jsou vyvozena doporučení pro praxi, která mohou pomoci lépe zvládat a integrovat toto citlivé téma do výuky a prostředí mateřské školy. Tato práce přispívá k lepšímu porozumění problematice smrti a umírání v kontextu mateřské školy, a může tak poskytnout základ pro další výzkum v této oblasti.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the reflection of kindergarten teachers on the topic of death and dying in the context of their pedagogical practice. The aim of the thesis is to understand teachers' attitudes, experience and practice. In this area and to identify the biggest challenges they face when working with this difficult topic. The work is structured into a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part focuses on the definition of terminology and theoretical starting points regarding death and dying as a topic in kindergarten. It includes an insight into the phenomenon of death, historical perspectives on the perception of death and dying, as well as views on their interpretation in the current postmodern society. It also deals with the children's concept of death, the role of the school in suppporting grieving children and strategies for opening up the topic in the kindergarten environment and the position of the teacher in this process. The practical part is implemented in the form of qualitative research through interviews with kindergarten teachers. The data obtained are analyzed and interpreted in order to understand the teachers' attitudes towards the topic of death and dying and the ways to implement this topic in my teaching practice. Based on the research results, recommendations for practice that can help better manage and integrate this sensitive topic into the teaching and environment of the kindergarten are drawn. This work contributes to a better understanding of the issue of death and dying in the context of kindergarten and can thus provide a basis for further research in this area.
