Hamás a Fatah: Two sides of Palestinian politics

Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje na odhalení příčin konfliktu mezi dvěma nejvýznamnějšími subjekty palestinské politiky – islamistickým hnutím Hamás a sekulárním Fatahem. Sledovány jsou dvě potenciální příčiny rozkolu, ideologie a politická moc. Cílem práce bylo provést komparaci daných hnutí a na základě rozboru jejich jednání zjistit, který z těchto dvou faktorů má na vztahy Hamásu a Fatahu rozhodující vliv. Na začátku práce byla stanovena hypotéza, že důvodem rozkolu mezi Hamásem a Fatahem je snaha získat nebo si udržet rozhodující politickou moc na palestinském území, ideologický postoj hnutí je až druhořadým faktorem, který slouží spíše k zvýšení popularity a zisku hlasů. Hypotéza byla výsledky práce potvrzena, ideologie není hlavní, alespoň v současné době příčinou konfliktu mezi Hamásem a Fatahem. Za hlavní důvod rozkolu lze tedy považovat snahu získat více politické moci.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis focuses on discovering the roots of the conflict between the two most important subjects of the Palestinian politics – Islamist movement Hamas and secular Fatah. Ideology and political power are the two potential roots of rift which are studied. The aim of this thesis was to compare these two movements and on the basis of analysis of their actions to find out which of these factors has the crucial influence on the relationship between Hamas and Fatah. The hypothesis that the reason of rift between Hamas and Fatah is the effort to gain or preserve critical political power on the Palestinian territory was set at the beginning of this thesis. The ideological attitudes of the movements are minor factors, which serve rather for boosting popularity and gaining votes. The hypothesis was proven right; the ideology is not the main reason of conflict between Hamas and Fatah, at least not in these days. The effort to gain more political power can be considered as the main reason of rift between Hamas and Fatah.
