The course of the business cycle and its effect on the revenue of selected football clubs in Europe 2006-2016

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá vztahem hospodářského cyklu ve vybraných evropských zemích a příjmy profesionálních fotbalových klubů v období 2006-2016. Cílem práce je zjistit, zdali jsou jednotlivé kluby při dnešní globální popularitě fotbalu jako takového nuceny pracovat i s výkyvy v národním hospodářství. Vzhledem k vybranému období bylo možné sledovat výkyvy hospodářského cyklu ve všech sledovaných zemích a prostřednictvím analýzy a komparace postavit do jednotného rámce. V teoretické části se práce zabývá definicí firmy, specifikami sportovních firem, dále porovnává severoamerický a evropský sportovní model a popisuje jednotlivé složky příjmů jednotlivých klubů, tak aby odpovídaly praktické části. Dále je rozebrán hospodářský cyklus, jeho příčiny a indikátory.V praktické části práce je proveden výběr jednotlivých zemí a pohled na evropskou ekonomiku v daném období. V další části jsou pak vybírány kluby, které jsou následně charakterizovány na příjmové straně svých rozpočtů. Poté následuje popis hospodářského cyklu jednotlivých zemích a následná analýza, která je podpořena korelačním koeficientem. Využívanými metodami jsou především pozorování, analýza, komparace a korelační analýza.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the relationship of the business cycle in selected European countries and the income of professional football clubs in the period 2006-2016. The target of the thesis is to find whether individual clubs are forced to work with fluctuations in the national economy in today's global popularity of football as such. Given the period selected, it was possible to monitor the fluctuations in the business cycle in all countries under review and to put them into a single framework through analysis and comparison.In the theoretical part the work deals with the definition of the company, the specifics of sports companies, then compares the North American and European sports model and describes the individual components of the income of each club, so that they correspond to the practical part. Furthermore, the business cycle, its causes and indicators are analyzed.In the practical part of the thesis there is a selection of individual countries and a view of the European economy in the given period. In the next section are then selected clubs, which are subsequently characterized on the revenue side of their budgets. This is followed by a description of the business cycle of each country and a subsequent analysis supported by a correlation analysis. The methods used are mainly observation, analysis, comparison and correlation analysis.
