The Self Portrait as a Specific Subject in the European Painting

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem žánru autoportrétu v evropském výtvarném umění od starověku až do přelomu 18.-19. století, kdy se končí nadvláda uměleckých slohů a tradičního malířského stylu. Text práce sleduje historickou dynamiku vývoje autoportrétu, příčiny vzniku tohoto žánru a specifičnost jeho stylu v odpovídajícím uměleckém období Evropy. Autoportrét jako svérázný druh biografického dokumentu a sebeprezentace je tedy v dějinách umění považován za předmět koncentrovaného a fascinujícího výzkumného procesu. V tomto procesu získává zvláštní důležitost otázka umělcovy osobní a kulturní sebeidentifikace a jeho umělecké dovednosti.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of the genre of self-portrait in European fine arts from antiquity to the turns of the 18th-19th centuries, when the dominance of artistic styles and traditional painting technique ends. The text of the thesis traces the historical dynamics of the development of the self-portrait, the causes of this genre and the specific of its style in the corresponding cultural period of Europe. Self-portrait as a distinctive kind of biographical document and self-presentation is therefore considered in the history of art as the subject of a concentrated and fascinating research process. In this process, the question of the artist's personal and cultural self-identification and his artistic skills gains special importance.
