Testing of influence of medical rehabilitation on upper limb function at people with cervical spinal cord injury via device SunBall

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá vlivem léčebné rehabilitace na funkci horní končetiny u osob v chronickém stádiu po traumatickém poškození krční míchy. Soubor čítal 10 osob (41,9 ± 15,33 let) s neurologickou úrovní léze v rozmezí C2 až T1 a rozsahem míšní léze A až D, které pravidelně docházejí na rehabilitaci do ParaCENTRA Fenix. Pomocí zařízení SunBall využívající optické zpětné vazby byla testována dominantní horní končetina. Testování probíhalo formou interaktivní hry vždy před začátkem terapie a po ní. Při srovnání všech výsledků testovaných osob v průběhu celé studie nebyl zaznamenán statisticky významný rozdíl mezi hodnotami získanými před terapií a po ní. Při srovnání výsledků testování jednotlivých osob byl prokázán statisticky významný rozdíl pouze u jedné osoby z deseti. Současně byly výsledky zkoumány z dlouhodobého hlediska. Ukázalo se, že rozdíl mezi výsledky testování před třetí terapií a před terapií odstupu dvou měsíců je signifikantní. Dále diplomová práce posuzovala vliv pravidelné rehabilitace na funkční soběstačnost pomocí Spinal Cord Independance Measure (SCIM) protokolu. U žádné z osob nebyl zaznamenán rozdíl mezi vstupní a výstupní hodnotou testu.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the influence of medical rehabilitation of the function of the upper limb in persons in chronic stage after traumatic damage of the cervical spinal cord. The group contained 10 persons (41.9 ± 15.33 years) with a neurological level of injury from the C2 to T1 and the spinal cord range A to D that regularly visit rehabilitation in ParaCENTRUM Fenix. Using a SunBall device which takes advantage of the optical feedback, the dominant upper limb was tested. Testings were performed in the form of interactive play each time before and after treatment, and a total of 10 treatment were tested. Compared to all the results of the test persons during the study, there was no statistically significant difference between the values gathered before and after the therapy. In comparison of the individual subjects, a statistically significant difference was found in only one in ten. Simultaneously, the results were researched in the long term. It proved to be that the difference between the results of the third testing and the two-month distance is significant. In addition, the diploma thesis evaluated the effect of regular rehabilitation on functional self-sufficiency using the Spinal Cord Independence Measure (SCIM) protocol. There was no difference between the input and output values for any of the subjects.
