Language Development in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder Using Applied Behavior Analysis

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá rozvojem komunikace u dětí s poruchami autistického spektra s využitím aplikované behaviorální analýzy. Cílem práce je zjištění vlivu intervence založené na principech aplikované behaviorální analýzy (ABA) na rozvoj funkční komunikace u neverbálních dětí s poruchami autistického spektra (PAS). V teoretické části je využita odborná literatura korespondující s daným tématem. Pozornost je věnována tématům jako jsou poruchy autistického spektra, komunikace a aplikovaná behaviorální analýza. V empirické části je využit kvantitativní výzkum, přesněji kvaziexperiment. Součástí výzkumu je 17 neverbálních dětí s poruchami autistického spektra, u kterých je pozornost zaměřena především na rozvoj mandů (požadavků). Výsledky výzkumu jsou porovnávány s daty před zahájenou intervencí a následně s daty po jednom roce intervence. Práce je ukončena diskuzí, doporučením pro praxi a závěrem.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis discusses language development in children with autism spectrum disorder using applied behavior analysis. The goal of this work is to find the influence of applied behavior analysis (ABA) on development of communication in non-verbal children with autism spectrum disorder. Specialized literature corresponding with the given topic is used in the theoretical part. Special attention is paid to topics such as autism spectrum disorders, applied behavior analysis, and communication. In the empirical part, a quantitative research, specifically quasi-experiment, is conducted. The research sample is made out of 17 non-verbal children with autistic spectrum disorder with the focus on development of mands.. The results of the research are compared to data before the intervention and after one year of intervention itself. The thesis is concluded with a discussion, recommendation for use in practice, and a conclusion.
