The phenomenon of narcocorridos - From classical mexican corrido to narcocorrido

Abstract:

This thesis illustrates a typical Mexican music genre called corrido, its development and evolution into modern forms called narcocorridos, representing reactions to the current problems in Mexico. Corridos, popular narrative songs celebrating national heroes and important events in the region, often served as a tool for spreading the news. By the end of the last century, corridos, although might have seemed doomed, evolved into a new sub-genre narcocorridos, which is closely tied to the world of drug dealers and smugglers. The aim of this thesis is to provide a comprehensive view of the development of corridos as a significant identity component of the Mexican society and to examine the influence of the issue on contemporary culture and society in Mexico. To proof the timeliness of the theme even outside the Americas, I have chosen a novel written by a Spanish writer, A. Péreze-Reverte.

Abstract:

V bakalářské práci se zabývám typickým mexickým hudebním žánrem, zvaným corridos, jeho vývojem i tím, jak se transformoval do moderních forem, narcocorridos, které jsou reakcí na aktuální problémy v Mexiku. Corridos, oslavující národní hrdiny a významné události regionu, byly často nástrojem pro šíření zpráv. Z těchto písní, které, jak se zdálo, byly odsouzeny k zániku, se koncem minulého století vyvinul podžánr narcocorridos, který je úzce propojen se světem drogových dealerů. Cílem práce bylo podat ucelený náhled na vývoj corridos, které jsou důležitým identitárním prvkem mexické společnosti a prozkoumat vliv dané tématiky na současnou kulturu a společnost v Mexiku. K prokázání aktuálnosti tématu i mimo americký kontinent, jsem zvolila román španělského spisovatele A. Péreze-Reverte.
