Abstract:

AbstraktV současné době je finanční sektor významným hráčem v rozvoji světové ekonomiky.Stejně jako v jiných afrických zemích, i ghanská vláda ve snaze podpořit vstup vícetuzemských bank do bankovního sektoru prošla v posledních čtyřech desetiletích několikaetapami strategického vývoje. I když se zdá, že se masivní vstup domácích bank vghanském finančním sektoru příliš nezměnil, zahraniční banky stále vedou finanční sektorv zemi, neboť tyto banky jsou hlavními zdroji financování vlády při dosahovánírozvojových cílů, zejména v prioritních odvětvích zemědělství a průmyslu. Vzhledem ktomu, že Ghana je stále rozvojovou zemí s bankovním a finančním sektorem citlivým naglobální ekonomické otázky, se tato práce snaží analyzovat strategické manažersképostupy založené na analýze vnějšího a vnitřního prostředí ghanského bankovního sektoru,s důrazem na Ecobank Ghana. Tento výzkum metodicky využívá kvantitativní ikvalitativní techniky, především dotazník a rozhovor na základě případové studie. Bylapoužitá metoda příméhovýběru vzorku, takže techniky sběru dat byly aplikovápřny namalý reprezentativní vzorek, který byl sledován do hloubky. Zjištění naznačují, žeEcobank Ghana přijala různé strategické manažerské postupy při řešení oblastí, jako jesituační analýza, formulace strategie, implementace a hodnocení, ale celkově jsou strategieřízení zaměřeny na politiku Ecobank Ghana. Kromě toho byly v rámci EcobankGhana identifikovány klíčové faktory vnitřního a vnějšího prostředí, včetně včasnéhopodávání zpráv o finanční výkonnosti, včasného hodnocení strategií, informovánízaměstnanců o strategiích, dodržování nařízení centrální banky (Bank of Ghana) a nutnostiprůběžných aktualizací realizovaných strategií.Klíčová slova: strategické řízení, ghanský bankovní sektor, vnější prostředí

Abstract:

AbstractNowadays the financial sector has become a major player in developing the worldeconomy. As in other African countries, the Ghanaian government in the way to boost theentry of more domestic banks in the banking industry has undergone several strategicdevelopments over the past four decades. Although the massive entry of domestic banksseems that much has not changed in the Ghanaian financial sector, foreign banks are stillleading the financial sector within the country, since these banks are the main sources offinance for government in pursuing developmental goals especially in priority sectors ofthe agriculture and industry. Owing to the fact that Ghana is still a developing country withbanking and financial sectors vulnerable to the global economic issues, this thesis aims toanalyse strategic management practices based on analysis of external and internalenvironment in the Ghanaian banking industry, concretely Ecobank Ghana.Methodologically, this research used both quantitative and qualitative techniques, mainlyquestionnaire and interview based on case study. The sampling method applied was non- probability, thus the data collection techniques were applied to a small representativesample which was nested in depth. The findings suggest that Ecobank Ghana had adoptedvarious strategic management practices in tackling with areas such as situational analysis,strategy formulation, implementation and evaluation, but overall the managementstrategies are pinned on Ecobank Ghana’s policies. Apart from that, there were identifiedthe key internal and external environment factors identified within Ecobank Ghanainclude timely reporting of financial performance, timely evaluation of strategies, staffbriefing of management strategies, compliance to the Central Bank (Bank of Ghana)regulation and the necessity of continuous updates of implemented strategies.Keywords: strategic management, Ghanaian banking industry, external environment
