Gender Analysis of Hobby Magazines "Zahrádkář" and "Můj dům"

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá problematikou tzv. hobby časopisů, konkrétně se pak věnuje časopisům Zahrádkář a Můj dům, které analyzuje z genderové perspektivy. Tyto dva časopisy jsou v této práci analyzovány každý zvlášť a výsledky jsou následně porovnány. Celá práce vychází z teoretických východisek, které jsou čerpány ponejvíce z díla P. Bourdieu, zejména z jeho chápání sociálního prostoru včetně problematiky společenské stratifikace. Výběr konkrétních titulů časopisů je založen na rozdílnosti společenského statusu jednotlivých sociálních skupin, pro které jsou určeny. Výběr konkrétních periodik byl zaměřen tak, aby při následném porovnání výsledků mohlo dojít k výraznějšímu kontrastu. Jde totiž o to, aby vybrané sociální skupiny byly na ose společenských distinkcí co nejvíce vzdáleny. Tento fakt je důležitý pro následnou interpretaci výsledků. Hlavní spojnicí obou časopisů je tematika zahrádkaření, ke které však každý z časopisů přistupuje jinak. Hlavním cílem celého textu je zjistit rozdíly mezi oběma časopisy v oblasti (ne)uplatňování genderových nerovností v jazyce, kterým časopisy mluví, ale také ve vyobrazených fotografiích, reklamách a v celkovém zaměření časopisů. Výsledky analýzy přinesly zjištění, že časopis Zahrádkář dává na svých stránkách mnohem větší prostor pro prezentování různých genderových nerovností a stereotypů než časopis Můj dům.

Abstract:

The paper is dealing with problems of “hobby” magazines. In concrete it analyzes magazines Zahrádkář (Gardener) and Můj dům (My house) with gender perspective. Both magazines are analyzed separately and results are compared consequently. Whole paper uses theoretical resources of P. Bourdieu, especially his conception of social space including problems of social stratification. Concrete magazines are dedicated for different social classes. The choice of magazines has been based on it. The choice of magazines is focused on marked contrast of results. For this contrast it is necessary that selecting social classes are far from themselves on the axis of social distinction. This fact is very important for subsequent interpretation of results. The main connection of both magazines is theme of gardening. However each of magazines holds other approach to this theme. The main objectives of this paper are to take differences between both magazines in sphere of assertion of gender inequalities in a language but in published photos, advertisements and in overall sight as well. Results bring findings that Zahrádkář magazine gives on its pages much more place for presentation various gender inequalities and stereotypes than Můj dům magazine.
