Varionationality of second order differential equations

Abstract:

The inverse problem of the calculus of variations is one of the most interesting problems that have a significant effect in mathematics, physics and applications. The problem is to find an answer to the following question: ??Given a system of second order ordinary differential equations, is it true that their solutions are solutions of certain Euler Lagrange equations? ?? In this thesis we give a description of several approaches to the inverse problem. We introduce dynamical forms and discuss the multiplier inverse problem of the calculus of variations. We show Douglas classification for the case of two differential equations, Prince's approach to the inverse problem of the calculus of variations, and we mention some aspects in the connection with translation from Riemann manifolds to Finsler manifolds. Almost every assertion in text is equipped with a proof except several cases that are trivial or can be found in literature.

Abstract:

Inverzní variační problém je jeden z nejzajímavějších problémů, který ovlivňuje matematiku, fyziku a také aplikace. Snaží se nalézt odpověď na následující otázku: ??Nechť je dán systém obyčejných diferenciálních rovnic druhého řádu. Je pravdou, že jejich řešení jsou řešeními Eulerovych-Lagrangeovych rovnic? ?? V této diplomové práci načrtneme vývoj inverzního variačního problému a popíšeme několik přístupů. Představíme dynamické formy a inverzní variační problém s multiplikátory. Ukážeme Douglasovu klasifikaci pro m = 2, Princův přístup k inverznímu variačnímu problému a zmíníme některé aspekty v souvislosti s přenesením inverzního problému z Riemanovy variety na Finslerovu varietu. Téměř všechna tvrzení jsou opatřena důkazy kromě několika případů, které považujeme za triviální nebo je lze najít v literatuře.
