Biology of the tubenose goby (Proterorhinus marmoratus), a new species of the ichthyofauna of the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Biologie hlavačky mramorované (Proterorhinus marmoratus Pallas, 1811) (Perciformes, Gobiidae) byla sledována v letech 1997 - 2006 na území dolního toku řeky Moravy a jejích přítoků, především na řece Dyji a vodním díle Nové Mlýny (VDNM). Výskyt tohoto druhu ryby byl poprvé na území České republiky doložen v devadesátých letech 20. století a představuje tak nový prvek ichtyofauny ČR. Mezi zkoumanými aspekty biologie hlavačky mramorované bylo sledování expanze druhu v dolním Podyjí a Pomoraví, kde se hlavačka během několika let po prvním záznamu stala místy dominantním druhem litorální zóny s relativní dominancí až 100%. První zjištění druhu bylo v Mušovské zdrži VDNM v roce 1994 (LUSK a HALAČKA 1994), v roce 1997 byla dominantním druhem litorální zóny Mušovské zdrže, v roce 1998 obsadila Věstonickou a v roce 1999 Movomlýnskou zdrž VDNM a dolní tok Dyje po soutok s Moravou a protiproudně po ústí Jevišovky. Expanze na dolní Moravě probíhala pomaleji, první doložení bylo v roce 1999, v letech 2000 - 2001 při ukončení sledování expanze byla zjištěna na 79 ř. km. Obsazeny jsou též dolní úseky přítoků včetně aluvia soutoku Moravy a Dyje. V rámci studia šíření hlavačky je diskutován i předpokládaný antropogenní původ dvou populací na řece Dyji - jako nejpravděpodobnější důvod dříve, či dosud izolovaného výskytu výskytu hlavačky na středním a horním toku Dyje. Dalším zkoumaným aspektem biologie hlavačky byla poproudá migrace druhu, která přispěla k šíření v rámci nově obsazovaného území na řece Dyji. Podle charakteru driftu jde o amfidromní migraci, do níž se zapojují pouze 0+ juvenilní ryby (YOY). Bylo zjištěno, že hlavačka má specifickou migrační strategii masivní migrace ve velikosti délky ryby 13 - 19 mm, kdy populaci pod Vodním dílem Nové Mlýny dotuje 300 - 360.000 jedinci YOY ročně. Mladé hlavačky migrují téměř výhradně v noci (92,3 - 96,3 %). Výrazně vyšší je drift v litorální zóně oproti migrování v proudnici. Migrace YOY je synchronizovaná, spouštěcím mechanismem je zřejmě délka světelného dne. Synchronizace driftu hlavaček je antipredačním chováním. Potravní, či prostorové důvody jako iniciace masivního driftu jsou nepravděpodobné. Vyloučen je též ontogenetický důvod - resorpce plynového měchýře. YOY hlavačky nemají plynový měchýř prokazatelně již v SL > 8 mm. Další studie se věnovala denzitě hlavačky v rámci areálu rozšíření, výsledky ukázaly že nejpočetnější je na dolní Dyji, zatímco hodnoty hustoty hlavačky na řece Moravě jsou několikanásobně nižší. Pravděpodobným důvodem k tomu je amfidromní migrace tohoto druhu Čtvrtým sledovaným okruhem byla potravní biologie druhu a také potravní biologie potenciálních predátorů hlavačky. Výsledky potravní studie ukázaly, že se hlavačka jako bentická ryba živí především zoobentosem, v menší míře se v její potravě objevuje zooplankton. Dominantní potravní složkou byli pakomáři (Chironomidae), kteří tvořili v průměru 40,5 % potravy a beruška vodní (Asellus aquaticus) 27,8 %. Analýza potravy okouna říčního (Perca fluviatlis) jako nejpočetnějšího predátora na sledované lokalitě ukázala, že hlavní složkou potravy byli podobně jako u hlavačky pakomáři (Chironomidae), ale zároveň hlavačka tvořila 31,6 - 43,8 % hmotnostní složky potravy. Populační charakteristiky poukázaly na krátkověkost druhu, kdy se většina populace (90 %) dožívá dvou let života. Pohlavní dospělosti dosahuje hlavačka v SL = 30 - 33 mm. Hodnota poměru pohlaví během reprodukčního období se měnila z poměru 1 : 1,05 před reprodukcí na 1 : 1,67 v reprodukčním období až na 1: 2,12 ve prospěch samic. ů - jako důsledek jejich teritoriality. Při potravní studii bylo zaznamenáno u hlavaček napadení metacerkáriemi motolice Apatemon cobitidis proterorhini v peritoneální dutině. Masivní infestace metacerkáriemi může mít vliv na plodnost druhu. Tato studie napomohla k poznání biologie hlavačky v novém prostředí během prvních deseti let po introdukci. Nejvýznamnějším výsledkem bylo, že objasnila některé aspekty poproudé migrace 0+ juvenilních hlavaček a podala přehled o potravě tohoto druhu v rámci VDNM. Po deseti letech od prvního záznamuje možné říci, že hlavačka je řádným členem ichtyofauny České republiky bez negativních vlivů na důležité druhy ryb, a na druhou stranu se hlavačka stala významnou složkou potravy okouna říčního (P. fluviatilis) v místech svého výskytu.

Biology of the tubenose goby (Proterorhinus marmoratus Pallas, 1811) (Perciformes, Gobiidae) was studied in 1997 - 2006 mostly in the area of the Dyje River and Nové Mlýny Water Reservoirs of the lower Morava River, their tributaries. Occurence of the tubenose goby was recorded for the first time in the Czech Republic in 1990s. Among tubenose studied biology aspects were expansion in Dyje River and Morava River basins, where tubenose goby started to be a dominant species in some sections of the littoral zone with relative dominance up to 100 % in first years of their occurence. First record of this species was in 1994 on Mušov reservoir of the NMWRs (LUSK a HALAČKA 1994). Tubenose goby was a dominant species in the littoral zone in 1997. In 1998 was registered in the middle reservoir and one year later it expandend to the lower reservoir and the whole lower stretch of the Dyje River all the way to the confluence with the Morava River. Upstream from NMWRs it gains the mouth of Jevišovka Rivulet. Expansion in the lower Morava River was much slower. First record in the Czech section was in 1999, and in 2000 - 2001 during ending of the study of the expansion was tubenose goby registered on the 79th river km. Occurence of the tubenose goby is recorded also in the lower parts of the Dyje and Morava rivers tributaries including aluvium of the confluence of these two rivers. Within tubenose goby expansion study the proposed antropogene origin of two populations on the Dyje River, which is the most probable reason of the former or still isolated occurence of the tubenose goby on the middle and upper coarse of the Dyje River, is discussed. Further studied aspect of the tubenose goby biology was their downstream migration, which supported their expansion in the lower Dyje River. According to the drift character this is an amphidromous migration, with the participation of the 0+ juvenilie fish (YOY) only. It was observed, that the tubenose goby has a specific migration strategy of massive migration in the size of SL = 13 - 19 mm, with drifting through small water plant Nové Mlýny about 300 - 360.000 ex. YOY annually. Young tubenose gobies are migrating mostly during the night (92,3 - 96,3 %). Drift is much higher in the littoral zone then in the Dyje River stream - line. The migration of the YOY is synchronized, influenced most probably by the daylight length. It is an antipredation behaviour. Food and spatial factors as the initiation of the massive drift are not likely, same as an ontogenetical reason - resorption of the swimmbladder. Tubenose goby YOY do not have already the swimmbladder in the SL > 8 mm. Further study was focused on the density of the tubenose goby in the various parts of its distribution area. The results shows that the tubenose goby is the most abundant in the lower Dyje River unlike in the Morava River. The most probable reason for this is the amphidromous migration of this fish. The fourth focus of the study was the food biology of the tubenose goby and its potential predators. The results of the food study show that this bentic fish is feeding mostly on zoobenthos, fewer also on on zooplankton. Dominant prey item were Chironomidae, at the average of 40,5 % in the food and Asellus aquaticus with 27,8 %. Prey analysis of the perch (Perca fluviatlis) as the most frequent predator on observed location showed that most important prey item were Chironomidae, similarly to the tubenose goby. On the other hand the tubenose goby represents 31,6 - 43,8 % of the food weight. Population characteristics shows short lifespan, where most of the population (90 %) is living only for about two years. Maturity is given at SL = 30 - 33 mm. Sex ratio M : F during reproductive period changed from 1 : 1,05 in pre-reprodution time to 1 : 1,67 during reproduction and up to 1: 2,12 after reproduction. ty. During food study an infestation by metacercaria of the Apatemon cobitidis proterorhini in their peritoneal cavity was recordered. It could have a big influence on the tubenose goby fertility. This study helped to widen knowledge of the tubenose goby biology in its new environment in the first ten years after their occurence in the Czech Republic. The most important results were some particular aspects of the downstream migration of the YOY and overview about food of the tubenose goby from NMWRs. After ten years of their first occurence record it is possible to say, that the tubenose goby is a regular member of the ichthyofauna of the Czech Republic without any negative influence on the important fish species. At the same time it became an important food component of perch (P. fluviatilis) in the places of its occurence.
