A set of parallel programming examples

Abstract:

Tato práce se zaobírá problematikou paralelizace původně sekvenčních algoritmů. V práci je postupně rozebíráno několik základních metod paralelizace výpočtů, přičemž každé metodě je věnována část skládající se z teoretické a praktické části. Teoretická část každé jednotlivé metody se věnuje hlubšímu rozboru problematiky, jejímu smyslu a příkladu využití. V rámci praktických částí je vždy naimplementován algoritmus, který metodu prakticky demonstruje a současně je k implementaci samotné vytvořena vizualizace, která umožňuje postupně krokovat výpočet a tento výpočet názorně graficky znázorňovat. Ve vizualizaci je zřetelné, jak program využívá více vláken a jak výpočetní problém paralelizuje. Výsledek práce by měl sloužit jako podklad pro výuku předmětu věnovaného nesekvenčním výpočtům.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the problem of parallelization of originally sequential algorithms. Several basic methods of parallelization of computations are discussed and each method is given a section consisting of a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part of each method is dedicated to a deeper analysis of the problem, its meaning and an example of its application. Within the practical parts, an algorithm is always implemented that demonstrates the method practically and at the same time a visualization is created for the implementation itself, which allows the calculation to be stepped and to illustrate this calculation graphically. In the visualization it is clear how the program uses multiple threads and how it parallelizes the computational problem. The result of this work should serve as a basis for teaching a course focused on non-sequential computation.
