Status of the Greek Ethnic Minority in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce mapuje přítomnost řecké národnostní menšiny v České republice. Zároveň představí hlavní příčiny příchodu řeckých emigrantů do tehdejšího Československa od počátků řecké občanské války a popíše následný vývoj řecké národnostní menšiny na českém území. V teoretické části jsou dále vysvětleny všechny důležité kulturní aktivity této menšiny. Za pomocí řízených rozhovorů a následné analýze dat je v empirické části vypracován návrh pro řešení problematiky udržení historického povědomí a zachování etnické identity řecké menšiny.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis maps the presence of the Greek national minority in the Czech Republic. At the same time, it will introduce the main causes of the arrival of Greek emigrants to the former Czechoslovakia since the beginning of the Greek Civil War and describe the subsequent development of the Greek national minority on Czech territory. In the theoretical part, all important cultural activities of this minority are further explained. With the help of controlled interviews and subsequent data analysis, a proposal is developed in the empirical part for solving the issue of maintaining historical awareness and preserving the ethnic identity of the Greek minority.
