Coping with the sudden death of a family member

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje problematice náhlého úmrtí v rodině, zvládání této krizové životní situace a pomoci pozůstalým. Teoretická část se věnuje tématům vnímání smrti v současnosti, traumatická událost, reakce na trauma, truchlení a pomoc pozůstalým. V empirické části představuji kvalitativní výzkum, který se zabývá tím, jak se respondenti vyrovnávali s náhlým úmrtím člena rodiny, jak se touto událostí změnil jejich život, a kdo nebo co jim k zvládání situace pomohlo. Osloveni byli lidé, kteří nejméně před dvěma lety prožili náhlou ztrátu rodiče nebo sourozence. Výzkum představuje také jejich názory na případnou účinnou pomoc pozůstalým, a čemu by se měli pomáhající naopak vyvarovat. Otázky integrace traumatického zážitku představují u nás málo řešené téma, výsledky práce by měly sloužit jako zpětná vazba k lepšímu porozumění situaci a potřebám pozůstalých příbuzných.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of sudden death in the family, coping with this critical situation and the help that the bereaved can get. The theoretical part deals with these themes: the perception of death, a traumatic event, the reaction to trauma, grieve and helping the bereaved. The research part deals with qualitative research. The research is focused on coping processes connected to the sudden death of a family member, how this event changes the lives of the bereaved and whom or what helped them in coping with the situation. For the purpose of the research we chose participants who have lost their parent or sibling in the past two years. The research also presents the opinions of the participants on the possible effectiveness of the help that the bereaved could receive. Also what should be avoided when providing help to the bereaved. The topic of integrating these traumatic events is not sufficiently covered. Outcomes of this thesis should provide the feedback necessary for a better understanding of the situation and needs of the bereaved.
