Europeanization mechanisms for the Netherlands through the Recovery and Resilience Facility

Abstract:

This thesis has investigated the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) and its potential mechanisms for Europeanization in the Netherlands. In doing so, it discusses three potential mechanisms for member state compliance vis-à-vis the European Commission. Policy change, procedural change, and institutional change. Using these three dimensions, the research outlines misfits between the Dutch context and the RRF's demands. Afterward, the perceived adaptational pressures are analyzed for each of them. Lastly, the domestic change is analyzed taking into account these misfits and adaptational pressures, as well as the degree of facilitating factors such as agents of change and institutional set-up.
