The evolution of relationship between NATO and South Caucasus region

Abstract:

Táto magisterská práce se věnuje vzájemným vztahům NATO a států jihokavkazského regionu - Gruzie, Arménie a Ázerbájdžánu. Nehledě toho, že tyto státy sdílejí určité podobnosti – všechny tři jsou malé, nacházejí se ve stejném geopolitickém prostoru, ve všech třech zemích jsou nevyřešené regionální konflikty, všechny byly součástí Sovětského svazu po stejnou dobu, v současnosti jsou transformujícími se zeměmi – předpokladem práce je, to že existují poměrné značné rozdíly ve vývoji postojů těchto zemí vůči transatlantické alianci. Pro pochopení specifických rysů se bude tato práce zabývat chronologickým vývojem vzájemných vztahů mezi jihokavkazskými státy a NATO. Snahou této práce je odhalení rozdílů a shod v rámci vzájemných vztahů mezi NATO a státy jihokavkazského regionu. Hlavním cílem výzkumu je zkomparovat postoje Gruzie, Arménie a Ázerbájdžánu vůči Alianci a ukázat shody a rozdíly v této souvislosti.

Abstract:

This Master's thesis deals with mutual relations of NATO and the states of South Caucasus region – Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Despite the fact that these states share some similarities - all three are small, they are in the same geopolitical space, in all three countries are unresolved regional conflicts, all were part of the Soviet Union during the same time, currently they are transforming countries – presumption of this work is that there are relatively large differences in the development of attitudes of these countries towards the transatlantic alliance. To understand the specific features, this work will address chronological development of mutual relations between South Caucasian states and NATO. The aim of this thesis is to reveal differences and matches in the context of mutual relations between NATO and the states of South Caucasian region. The main objective of the research is to compare position of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan to the Alliance and to show compliance and the differences in this context.
