Life in Community

Abstract:

Diplomová práce Život v komunitě vychází z terénního výzkumu, který proběhl ve třech různých komunitách jižní Moravy. Tato práce blíže zkoumá hodnoty a názory členů zenového centra Kwan Um v Brně, Maháprabhudíp ášramu Jógy v denním životě ve vesnici Střílky a lidí žijících v Horním mlýně, který je součástí městyse Křtiny. Ačkoliv se tyto tři komunity ve svém zaměření liší - zenová škola Kwan Um vychází z korejské tradice zen buddhismu, Jóga v denním životě z indické jógové tradice a Horní mlýn nenásleduje žádnou z duchovních cest, ale snaží se žít a propagovat udržitelný životní styl, existují ve všech třech komunitách určité styčné body. Tato práce popisuje nejen vznik, pozadí, pravidla a život v komunitě, ale také způsob, jakým současná společnost komunitu vnímá. Je zde představen pohled členů komunit a také obyvatel Křtin a Střílek. Komunita a zbytek společnosti se prolínají jak v běžném životě, tak i při projektech a akcích, které komunity organizují. Práce ukazuje obohacující vliv, který komunita může mít na společnost a naopak. Také ukazuje klady a zápory života v komunitě, tak jak je členové komunit vnímají. Kromě detailního popisu komunit se práce zaměřuje na jejich společné prvky a rozdíly a pokouší se tak zjistit, proč jsou některé z nich majoritní společností přijímány, zatímco jiné jsou odmítány.

Abstract:

The Master Thesis Life In Community is based on field research carried out in three distinct communities in southern Moravia. This work explores values and opinions of the members of Kwan Um Zen Centre in Brno, Maháprabhudíp ashram of Yoga in Daily Life in Střílky village and of the people living in The Upper Mill in a small town of Křtiny. Although the three communities follow different directions: Kwan Um Zen School being based on Korean Zen Buddhist tradition, Yoga in Daily Life based on Indian yoga tradition and The Upper Mill not following any spiritual path but trying to live and promote a sustainable lifestyle, there are some points common to all three communities. This work describes not only the creation, the background and the life in a community with its rules, but also the way the community is perceived in the contemporary society. Both the views of the members of the communities and of the people living in Křtiny and Střílky are presented here. The community and the rest of society are intertwined in daily life and also in projects and events organized by the communities. The thesis shows the enriching effect the community may have on the society and vice versa. It also points out the pros and cons the life in a community has on its members. Alongside with providing a detailed description of the communities, this work attempts to trace their common features as well as the differences, and thus tries to find out why some of them are acceptable while others are rejected by the majority society.
