History of the quadrature parabola

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá historií kvadratury paraboly od starověku přes renesanci až po současnost. Práce má především teoretický charakter. Zaměřuje se na počátky lineárních rovnic, pokračuje přes první řešení kvadratury paraboly a vyúsťuje integrálním počtem. Historická bádání a jednotlivé prameny postavily základy pro současné matematické postupy. Práce se odkazuje na myšlenky významných matematiků historie. Prvním objevitelem paraboly byl matematik Meneachmos. Kvadraturou paraboly se zejména zabýval Archimédes, který svými díly inspiroval matematiky 17. století. Zjištěná historická fakta úzce souvisí s pojmy jako parabola, kvadratura paraboly či kvadratická funkce, které jsou rozebrány v úvodní kapitole. Práce obsahuje i názorné postupy a výpočty příkladů kvadratury paraboly. Celá práce je završena využitím paraboly ve fyzice a v praxi.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the history of the quadrature of the parabola from the antiquity through Renaissance to the present. The thesis is of theoretical nature. It focuses on the origins of linear equations, the first solution of the quadrature of the parabola and integral equations. Researches conducted over the centuries and historical sources have laid the foundations of contemporary mathematics. The thesis deals with ideas of important mathematicians of history. The first mathematician who dealt with the parabola was Meneachmos. The quadrature of the parabola was studied mainly by Archimedes, whose work was the inspiration for mathematicians of 17th century. The established historical facts are closely related to terms such as parabola, quadrature of parabola or quadratic function, which are discussed in the introduction. In the thesis are shown illustrative procedures and calculations of quadratures of parabola. The thesis is completed by using the parabola in physics and in practice.
