Chess in the history of intelligent machines – The Turk (automaton chess player) vs. Deep Blue (chess-playing computer)

Abstract:

V bakalářské diplomové práci budeme prostřednictvím komparace Kempelenova hráče šachu, Turka, a šachového počítače Deep Blue poukazovat k tendenci k odtělesnění, přesněji k upouštění od antropomorfních tvarů ve prospěch abstraktních inteligentních systémů, jak se projevila ve vývoji konstrukce inteligentních automatů. Společnými jmenovateli, díky kterým můžeme komparaci provádět, budou: postupy při inscenování inteligentního chování automatů a koncept šachové partie jako rozhraní a hry člověka se strojem.

Abstract:

The focus of this Bachelor’s thesis is to compare Kempelen’s chess player, Turk, and a chess computer Deep Blue and thus refer to the tendency to disembody, or rather abandon the antropomorphic shapes in favour of abstract intelligent system, as reflected in the development of intellligent machine design. The common denominators which aid the comparison, are: procedures used when generating intellligent machine behaviour and the concept of a game of chess as an interface and a human against computer game.
