American Cartoons: Parody and Satire in South Park and The Simpsons

Abstract:

Dimplomová práce se zaměřuje na způsob, jakým dva populární americké kreslené seriály, South Park a Simpsnovi, komentují některá ve spojených státech velmi diskutovaná témata jako, veřejné školství, homosexualita, rasové vztahy a nelegální přistěhovalectví. Především tedy jaké typy satiry a parodie k tomouto komentáři používají. Dále se práce snaží dokázat, že ačkoliv jsou oba seriály animované a komerčně velmi úspěšné, dají se považovat za relevantní zdroj kritiky současné Ameriky.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the manner in which South Park and The Simpsons employ parody and satire while commenting on controversial issues, such as public education, homosexuality, race relations and illegal immigration, which are endlessly discussed by the American public. The thesis also tries to prove that despite the medium of animation and commercial success, the cartoons can be regarded as a reliable critique of contemporary America.
